Red Bull is a globally renowned energy drink produced by Red Bull GmbH, an Austrian company founded in 1987. Known for its distinctive taste and energizing properties, Red Bull has become the world's best-selling energy drink. In 2020 alone, the company sold an impressive 7.9 billion cans. Its headquarters in Fuschl am See is a notable landmark, offering visitors a chance to appreciate the brand's impact while enjoying the spectacular surrounding views.
The picturesque town of Sankt Gilgen offers a delightful mix of history and natural beauty. Named after Saint Aegidius, known in English as Saint Giles, the town's name reflects its rich cultural heritage. As a popular travel destination, St. Gilgen provides boat tours around Lake Wolfgangsee, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Visitors can also see the hermitage of the original St. Gilgen, located behind a chapel in the Falkenstein cliffs between St. Wolfgang and Fürberg. In 2005, St. Gilgen was promoted as the “Mozart Village” by the Wolfgangsee Tourist Board, despite Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart never visiting the town. However, his grandfather worked there, his mother was born in St. Gilgen, and his sister, Nannerl, moved there after her marriage. Today, the village is home to the prestigious St. Gilgen International School, adding a modern touch to its historical charm. Enjoy a wonderful 10-minute stop at a scenic viewpoint, followed by 30 minutes to explore the charming downtown area of Sankt Gilgen on your own.
Saint Wolfgang founded the first church on the shores of Lake Wolfgangsee after retreating to the nearby Mondsee Abbey in 976. According to legend, he threw an axe down the mountain to determine the church's location and even persuaded the Devil to help build it by promising him the soul of the first living being to enter. To Satan's disappointment, the first creature to cross the threshold was a wolf. After Saint Wolfgang’s canonization in 1052, the church became a major pilgrimage site and was first documented in an 1183 deed by Pope Lucius III. In 1481, the church was adorned with the famous Pacher polyptych. Over the centuries, several lodging places developed around the church, though the renowned Weißes Rössl hotel was not constructed until 1878. During World War II, the area housed a sub-camp of the Dachau concentration camp, adding a somber chapter to its history.
Hallstatt offers a variety of attractions, starting with the Hallstatt Salt Mine and Skywalk. Accessible by cable car or a three-minute ride on the funicular railway, the Skywalk is a must-visit for its breathtaking views, extending over a sheer drop with Hallstatt 350 meters directly below. Another vantage point is the historic Rudolf’s Tower (Rudolfsturm), a former fortification now serving as a restaurant and observation tower, offering spectacular views. The star attraction, however, is the 7,000-year-old salt mine itself, a fascinating journey into history. In the village, you’ll find the charming Marktplatz, surrounded by traditional houses and highlighted by the elegant Holy Trinity statue. The center of town features the 19th-century Evangelical Church of Hallstatt, with its tall, slender spire serving as a lakeside landmark. Other notable sites include the Catholic Parish Church and the Ossuary Chapel, as well as the World Heritage Museum, which provides insights into the region’s rich cultural heritage.
After visiting Hallstatt, we will take a relaxed, scenic return drive to Salzburg, where your tour concludes with a drop-off at your accommodation or chosen central location.
